| | | 17" Ceremonial Catlinite Turtle Pipe | The total length of this Authentic Native American Catlinite Turtle Pipe is just a hair shy of being 17" long. The Pipe bowl itself measures 4-7/8" by 3-1/4" and is app. 1-1/4" tall.
This pipe is made out of a very unique piece of Sacred Pipestone or Catlinite. The stone has many spots or "stars" on the bottom of it, while the part you can see most of the time is a very deep dark red color.
We made this pipe slightly different than some of the turtle pipes we've made in the past. As you can see in the 3rd photo, the stem enters into the turtle's open
mouth, instead of by the tail.
Catlinite like this has been used for centuries to make ceremonial and personal pipes. The material is great to carve and it also holds up very well to intense heat, so it's simply ideal for using to make ceremonial pipes.
This Pipe would make a great ceremonial Pipe or personal pipe for prayer. It is another one-of-
a-kind piece crafted by Hapan. The stem has excellent draw and the bowl is drilled out to allow for quite a bit of tobacco. I could easily envision this pipe being gifted to a person who feels a special connection with the turtle, and will be going up on the hill for the first time next year.
As many of you know, the turtle has special significance in Native American Folklore.
This pipe is signed by Hapan. The stem is made out of California Redwood. It is decorated with leather fringes and traditional Sioux beadwork.
